Privacy Collection | Wearable technology by Dejha Ti and Ania Catherine debuts in Rome
Ania Catherine and Dejha Ti debut the first piece from their Privacy Collection, a trench coat called I’d rather be in a dark silence than created in collaboration with Barbara Sanchez-Kane. The coat pockets lined with military grade fabric to keep wireless devices offline—a technique primarily used in law enforcement and digital forensics, executive travel protection for anti-hacking/anti-tracking, secure communications and signal isolation/blocking. Each coat uses NFTs for Blockchain authentication. Created in partnership with MoCDA, the piece will be on view starting 20.10.2020 in Rome as part of Renaissance 2.0 2.0 at Museo San Salvatore in Lauro. Curator: Eleonora Brizi
Other Renaissance 2.0 2.0 artists include
Ai Weiwei, Dada, Sofia Crespo, Hackatao, Maria Svarbova
Devices sealed in the dark pockets are unable to be reached, tracked, traced, nor monitored. Despite the problematic T&Cs the wearer has signed, this trench cancels it out—at least for a moment.
The collection is an appendage project to their seminal work On View, looking at the entanglement of social media, convenience culture, extractive technologies, and data in modern society. The trench coat, created in collaboration with fashion designer Barbara Sanchez-Kane, merges conceptual art and function. Its visually absurd pockets are lined with military grade fabric to keep wireless devices offline—a technique primarily used in law enforcement and digital forensics, executive travel protection for anti-hacking/anti-tracking, secure communications and signal isolation/blocking. Its shielding nickel and copper composition blocks WiFi (2.4 & 5GHz), Bluetooth, cell signals including 5G networks, GPS, RFID, radio signals (80-100dB shielding rating from 10Mhz to 5Ghz), in addition to shielding EMI, RFI, EMF radiation. Each piece uses NFTs for Blockchain authentication.
