Natural Subject(s) decentralizes the human experience. Its creation was a collaboration with nature; we entered and submitted to the environments, resisting the myth of superiority and desire for control.

While shooting, a caterpillar crawls onto Dejha’s jacket, the presence of poison ivy dictates where we can stand, wind blows a scarf and becomes the central focus of the image, mosquitos feed from our flesh as we make art in their swamp, clouds reveal light patterns that lure us into dusty corners, a family of geese stand by Ania’s feet as she performs, we stumble upon a dead bird that is simultaneously gorgeous and depleted of life.

The clothes come to life via our bodies inhabiting them in the very landscapes and beings that motivated them. Small instances defined this experience, and we hope that these peculiar moments of chance captured in these photos leads to a deeper listening to and honoring of the natural world.
